Communicating our blend of technology, business skills and values with enthusiasm

The most effective Knowledge Transfer involves researchers who are interested and motivated to work across boundaries. Interdisciplinary collaborations benefit from specific training and encouragement to follow simple rules of partnership. We also train people to recognise and evaluate the potential value of their research.

We have delivered numerous workshops and events for our clients, and have recently established a national activity on behalf of the UK Research Councils which specifically addresses the needs of researchers who wish to understand the potential commercial value of their technologies.

Qi3 is not a traditional training organisation and indeed other companies specialise in this field. 

Nevertheless, we are asked to provide training, coaching and mentoring services to research academics and to companies engaged in Knowledge Transfer and technology acquisition because:

  • We are experienced technology business managers.  We have developed tens of start-ups / spinouts ourselves, executed licences as buyers and sellers and established hundreds of collaborative R&D partnerships.
  • We are experienced practitioners in Knowledge Transfer. 
  • We work as ‘doers’ not just ‘preachers’
  • We have now provided considerable training, coaching and mentoring to companies and academics alike

Our overarching approach is to mix four elements into the training:

  • Well-known methodologies for elements such as team-building
  • Specific Qi3 methodologies based upon our day-to-day experience of supporting all vectors of Knowledge Transfer (collaborative R&D, licensing, spinout formation etc.)
  • The personal aspects of commercialisation of research (such as the decision as to whether the researcher could or should focus on continued research or commercialisation)
  • Building skills in participants that are transferable to their everyday work

Qi3’s Technology Commercialisation Training services are delivered in a variety of formats, customised to your needs:

  • As a series of 2 hour seminars
  • As one-day modular courses
  • As a 2-3 day residential workshop
  • Coaching and mentoring services are always delivered on a tailored basis
