TechMaxTM is the Qi3 marketing
methodology for maximising the value
of your Intellectual Property, usually
outside of your core business
- The fundamental principle is
that you understand how your IP
portfolio can be applied in your
own business; we support exploitation
in other applications
- TechMaxTM is underpinned
by Qi3’s Technology Market
Evaluation (TME) and VACME! business
development support service
- The service is designed for corporate
venturing organisations and innovation
houses
- TechMaxTM is a sructured
approach to identifying potential
new markets for new and existing
technologies
Intellectual Property (IP) is an
important element of a company’s
assets, but is all too often treated
purely as an “overhead cost”,
and its potential contributions to
profit and the attainment of strategic
business objectives overlooked or
misunderstood.
Extracting optimum value from a
company’s IP may include; licensing,
sale, or the creation of “spin-out” or
joint venture companies. Making the
most appropriate choice requires
examination of the IP strength, its
strategic value (in terms of the
needs and objectives of the company)
and effectively matching it with
new applications and associated markets.
These activities demand a mix of
technical, marketing and IP exploitation
skills. Our extensive commercial
and IP management experience and
strong technology base, linked with
our “hands on” marketing
approach enables us to undertake
each task with insight and efficiency.
The Qi3 TechMaxTM service
has been designed in modular form,
making it flexible enough for you
to efficiently and cost-effectively
harness our expertise and experience
to achieve the specific results you
need.

TechMax FAQ
I want to focus on the
core markets relevant to my business.
Why should I be interested in other
applications or markets?
IP can often be exploited by third
parties active in markets which don’t
clash with your core business, providing
additional revenue without diverting
your staff from core activities.
Qi3 has the skills and experience
to identify these markets, recognise
appropriate commercial opportunities
within them, and to set up appropriate
commercial arrangements.
I already have in-house
IP and marketing people. Why do
I need Qi3?
In house staff are, by definition,
focused on your core business applications
and markets. It is rare that they will
have the time, breadth of experience,
or specialist mix of skills to objectively
investigate alternative commercialisation
routes and challenge existing assumptions.
Qi3 prefers to work within client companies,
so that our experience can be transferred
to your staff.
Is Qi3 just another company
which traps me in an agreement
to license my patents in exchange
for almost all of any resulting
income, and then seems to disappear?
Unlike some other companies, Qi3’s
mode of operation does not require
assignment of your IP to us, and does
not normally involve any restriction
of your freedom of action. Our emphasis
is on maximising the value of your
IP, and we will investigate the most
appropriate way to do this. We are,
for example, experienced in facilitating
strategic alliances, spin-outs and
development agreements - we don’t
just look at licensing opportunities.
Qi3 normally operates against agreed
milestones on a fee basis, and produces
valuable deliverables in the form of
analyses of applications, markets and
commercial opportunities. Although
we are capable of providing a complete
service (up to and including setting
up the deal on your behalf), we aim
to provide you with sufficient feedback
and information to enable you to take
the process forward independently if
preferred.
