The SPIE symposium on Astronomical Telescopes and Instrumentation is to be held in Glasgow from 21st-25th June. Entitled “The Industrial Revolution in Astronomy”, the event will include an industrial exhibition as the world gears up for the design and manufacture of a new generation of “Extremely Large Telescopes”.
Alongside the exhibition, an evening reception has been sponsored by PPARC, the Smart Optics Faraday Partnership and Scottiish Enterprise. Speakers will be Lewis Macdonald, Deputy Minister for Enterprise and Lifelong Learning in the Scottish Parliament, Colin Cunningham, Director of Technology Development at the UK Astronomy Technology Centre and Nathan Hill, Managing Director of Qi3 and PPARC Industry Coordinator.
