The government is doing everything in its power to help fund the Research and Development (R&D) activities of UK businesses. The incentives that are available are designed to keep and increase the R&D activities of UK companies within the UK. European R&D intensity is significantly lower than that of the US (5.1%) or Japan (4.3%), and the UK (2.5%) is low compared to the rest of Europe (3.6%).*
The Government aims to create a favourable climate for businesses to innovate in the UK, by providing varied and extensive sources of R&D funding. Various government departments and institutions provide these schemes; notably the Research Councils fund the exploitation of research. Some of these providers fund projects jointly, most have specific areas of interest and many are technology specific. The key to winning research funding is knowing which are the most appropriate schemes for your technology and situation.
Qi3 in partnership with a number of government departments now provides a service where companies can find schemes that will help fund the development of their technology. This service is called SchemeFinder and can be found at www.schemefinder.org
SchemeFinder provides a “gateway” into Government and European Schemes that support research, innovation, and technology transfer within the UK’s industry and academic base. It provides the information and tools necessary for companies to make an informed decision on which schemes are most suited to their circumstances. SchemeFinder is not a one-stop shop, it is more of a sign post. Once relevant schemes have been identified further details can then be accessed via the links and contacts provided.
Qi3 has extensive experience in sourcing new technologies, new business formation, and government funding schemes, and are pleased to help if companies wish to speak directly. All conversations are strictly confidential.
