We are now developing our Central London operation and seeking several motivated people to help replicate the success of our Cambridge business in our satellite London office. We thus have three positions available, for a Senior Technology Commercialisation Specialist/Busines Development Manager, a Technology Commercialisation
Specialist and an Office/Marcoms Manager. For the two technology business roles, we are seeking specific experience
in physics, engineering, software,
life ciences, IT or Micro/Nanotechnology for implementation
in our Defence, Aerospace, Secuity & Space or Life Science and Healthcare Technology
sectors.
We are also seeking
to expand our work with the space
industry, the instrumentation sector
and in supporting large research
facilities. We will be flexible around

Business Development Manager (£60k+ package) - Central London
Qi3 is currently looking for a Business Development Manager (Senior Technology Commercialisation Specialist) with at least 10 years worth of sales, marketing and management experience in physical or life sciences, in environmental monitoring / energy / sustainability or in marketing to scientific research facilities.
The role will be work with our Managing Director to build up and run the central London arm of this highly successful marketing and technology commercialisation business.
Due to a period of fast growth Qi3 is now looking to grow its satellite office in Covent Garden to a staff of four (including the successful candidate), with a view to further growth towards the end of 2008.
The right person will be credible with clients in either (a) the engineering, defence and aerospace industries or (b) the life sciences and pharmaceutical development industries and with researchers in the physical and / or life sciences communities.
The job
You will operate across the spectrum of sales and marketing to help bring our clients' technologies to commercial success. You will work within our clients' businesses as their commercial support advising them on marketing, sales and strategic business issues, and then helping with the implementation of the sales, product and promotional programmes. You will be prepared to represent clients to their customers as a sales/marketing/business development manager. Within the business, you will contribute to the growth and strategy of the company and bring creativity, insight and intelligence to everything you do.
Within Qi3 you will work as a senior team member, contributing to the development of new business for the company and supporting the development of Qi3’s business.
The person
You will be a graduate or PhD in a science or technology discipline. At least 10 years of sales, marketing and management experience gained in a technology business is essential. Experience of acquisitions/disposals and partnerships/strategic alliances would be valuable. A typical profile for the right candidate will include several years as Sales/Marketing/Commercial Director and Managing Director of a technology-based company.

Attributes
Technical
- Good technical or scientific training to degree level, preferably in (a) engineering, physics or IT, (b) environmental sciences or (b) biochemistry or medicine, particularly from an engineering / instrumentation perspective
- Understanding of principles relating to the application of these technologies in the markets in which you have operated.
Commercial
- Experienced in hands-on selling and pioneer selling / business development (includes activities such as licensing, capital equipment sales, R&D contract sales)
- Experience in marketing (product marketing and marketing communications)
- Market experiences in areas such as software, photonics and nanotechnology are desirable
- Ability to sell contracts for the Qi3 team and yourself
- We are seeking individuals with combined technical and commercial backgrounds, so if your background is purely in marketing, this vacancy will be inappropriate
Managerial
- For senior posts, it will be advantageous to have held a second-level management position in a business
- New business creation experience is desirable

Office Manager with Marcoms/Events experience - Central London
Are you a brilliant organiser with Marcoms or event management experience? Are you highly motivated with a keenness to learn and think you can turn your hand to almost anything?
This is a fantastic opportunity to work with our Managing Director to set up and run the London arm of a highly successful marketing and technology commercialisation business based in Cambridge. Due to a period of fast growth Qi3 is now looking to build up the satellite office in central London to a staff of four (including the successful candidate), with a view to growing to a larger office towards the end of 2008.
You will be responsible for the initial setting up and day-to-day operation of our office in Charing Cross as well as some PA duties to the Directors. You will need to have excellent organisational and IT skills, a superb eye for numbers and exceptional verbal and written English. You will also play an important role in the coordination of our public sector industry clubs and events, working with the Marketing Services team in Cambridge. A good understanding of marketing and experience gained within a marketing and/or events environment is preferable. Experience with CRMs, in particular GoldMine is also a distinct advantage. Within the business, you will bring creativity, insight and intelligence to everything you do.
A willingness to get involved at every stage of the business - from answering the phones to attending events - cannot be overemphasised here, therefore the ability to juggle and work under pressure is crucial. Technology Commercialisation Specialist [Life Sciences or Space/Environment]

Qi3 is a specialist marketing company that focuses on bridging the technology / market gap. We work closely with our blue-chip client base to find markets for their technologies and bring them to successful commercialisation. Due to the growth in this part of the business we now have an opportunity for a technology commercialisation specialist and we are seeking a graduate or PhD engineer or scientist with at least 6 years experience in sales, product marketing and/or market research in a business to business environment.
The job
You will work directly with our clients and with our technology business development specialists to provide technology and market commercialisation support, research and intelligence across a wide range of technologies, products, market sectors and countries. Some projects are long-term and ongoing and others are short, focused bursts of enquiry. All our work aims to support the commercial success of technology businesses at the growth and start-up stages.
You will be particularly involved in the following types of project:
- Knowledge Transfer for our public sector clients: This involves considerable interaction with Universities, academic researchers, funding organisations and industry. Confidence in personal interactions, travel and public speaking are essential to this job.
- Technology Market Evaluation projects: In these projects your skills in market research will be put to the test. A mixture of desk-based analysis and telephone / personal interviews distinguish the Qi3 approach to this endeavour.
- Intellectual Property licensing: You will work on specific projects where the business development goal is licensing and / or strategic alliance. You will be responsible for developing leads and deal making.
The person

- In the case of Environment you will be engaged with technologies in the upstream and downstream space sectors as well as environmental monitoring instrumentation, so interest in space science, space exploration, earth observation, navigation, telecommunications and related industries (defence, security, aerospace, transport) and environmental monitoring / downstream applications of space is essential.
- In the case of Life Sciences, we are particularly looking for somebody with experiences in the engineering / physics side of life science or medical instrumentation
Commercial
- You will have demonstrable experience in at least two of the following; sales, business development, product marketing, market research, technology licensing, business start-up
- Ability to understand marketing concepts and toolkits used in market research, segmentation, market sizing and positioning
- Ability to hunt out information on the Internet, publicly and commercially available sources
- You will probably have held at least two sales or product marketing posts in your career so far and demonstrated success
- Business and technical competence in additional languages would be most desirable
