Mark Smith - Qi3 Associate

Mark has over 25 years technical and managerial experience working in the space sector. Starting as a researcher building space instrumentation and analysing data he quickly moved into the management of space projects and strategy development for organisations such as Astrium Ltd.

His managerial experience covers a wide-range of space activities from small stand-alone instruments for Universities to complete space system design and from launching sounding rockets for NASA to the design of ground-control software systems for Eutelsat.

Mark’s experience in working for universities, industry and research councils in the UK as well as spending 7 years working for NASA means that he is often in demand as an independent space advisor and at present is chairman of one of the research council’s main funding panels.

Mark has a PhD in astrophysics and in his spare time tutors for the Open University.
