Software is a pervasive ingredient in practically all innovation in business or technology development. Qi3 has helped numerous companies and academic groups successfully exploit and commercialise IT, ranging from start-ups to major corporations. The IT and software team in Qi3 complements the offerings of the other teams by bringing together direct experience gained in telecoms, coding and development, product management and software sales. The Qi3 sales and marketing methodologies can be applied in the IT sector to build sales through established and novel routes and to support them with bespoke training or other user community initiatives.
Our knowledge of technical projects in the scientific computing arena and extensive involvement with CERN, RAL and other institutions gives us particular expertise in for example utility computing (“IT on-demand”). Qi3 is familiar with suppliers, services, existing and emerging technologies and can assist with selection between competing and alternative options.
We are practised in the development of business cases for adoption of grid computing and detailed project specification. Immediate applications include investment banking (e.g. financial modelling), engineering (e.g. data processing, simulation and analysis) and pharmaceutical industries (experimental analysis, drug design), and are expected to penetrate wider markets as adoption of utility models increases. Computing facilities at research facilities or HEIs can sell spare processing capacity and hardware suppliers can enhance their offerings through the use of middleware already carrying out critical tasks in scientific research.
